A Very Satisfying Confirmation of the Weirdness We Always Expected
I loved every page of this book and devoured it in just two days - and that's with grading on top. Very readable, very enjoyable and shows how generally right our ancestors were. Of course, the authors are very typical in their smug "aren't we marvelous with our shiny scientific thought" attitude, but I think I might be too if I made what they no doubt will on this book (not to mention their sweet government jobs as well).

What's the lowdown? The basic idea is that all the mythic paradigms of our forefathers are actually maintained to some degree by modern scientific findings about the universe. The Ouroboros, the Geocentric (?) model of the Universe, the world-tree, Niflheim, it's all fair game in this marvelous romp through modern scientific discoveries. As a medievalist, my response was "well, duh! Fancy that our ancestors had an inkling of what was going on in their universe!"

Anyway, it's really gotten me back into science and physics, so a heartfelt "thanks", guys. - Morchú , posted 05/01/08
