I was compiling a list of local cafes for Hostelling International (where I work) and it became obvious to me that Solstice is in its own category. It's sooo much more than a place to have coffee... its pulsating life inspires (and at times disturbes) me! besides being the place where i've spent a huge chunk of the last 4 1/2 years, this is the best cafe in town for many reasons. 1.it has all organic and fair trade coffee. 2. all organic milk (including soy and rice) 3.organic dark CHOCOLATE (for hot chocolates and just to munch on) 4. there are many cute hotties who frequent the place, and many people doing interesting things with their time here on earth. 5.it promotes and is committed to sustainability and eco-positive decisions. 6. it composts and recycles and reuses everything possible. 7 it has a hot staff of creative and highly talented darlings(wink wink) 8. it is a beautiful space with high ceilings and brick walls and large windows, on the edge of the oldest chinatown in Canada. 9. it host many types of events including music, poetry, and art shows, as well as fundraisers and information sessions for many eco-friendly and activist groups. 10.it has monthly rotating artwork on the walls. 11.it has a great diversity of music always on rotation...need i say much more really? be there. oh yeah! and 12.fabulous fresh food at wicked prices. just try to find a comparable price for a luscious salad anywhere in town. ya cant.
